Radiate Fire – Dance Dance Revolution (with costumes)

You know how in a beer commercial, or a movie, or a No Doubt video, there’s this fantastic dance party going on, with the music thumping and the people dancing, and everybody is fabulous and having fun? And then you go to the club, or a rave, or a hipster show, it’s just not as good as you imagined it would be. Lots of people are just standing off to the side talking or drinking. There aren’t many pretty girls or guys, and those that are are paired off anyway. And while some people are having fun, the majority of people are just looking, looking out for some action, looking out for themselves, looking out for where the fun is at. And you think to yourself, "Where is that mythical party? Where is that place where EVERYBODY is having a great time?"

I found that place my friend, and it was FUN.

After the show (really four shows: The Teaser, The Opening Act, The Second Act (Fire again) , and the Acrobatics and Burlesque Closer), came the obligatory dance portion of the night. Only with a kickass DJ, which made things good. There weren’t that many people in attendance to begin with, which I thought would be bad. BUT it turns out that was good, because the performers didn’t do that thing that performers do, which is run off to the hip afterparty which is sooper secret and hidden and even if you did find it everybody knows everybody anyway so they’d totally ignore you. No sir, that did not happen. Instead, they stayed to dance. And I mean DANCE. As in, not try to impress anybody, or pick up somebody, or show off hot moves dance you always see. I mean dance like there’s nobody about, dance likes you gotta move, dance because it’s a fun ass thing to do kinda of dancing. And that’s what you do. You dance, you get caught up in the swirl, you have a kickass time, all the more so because that burlesque dancer? Yeah, that’s her in her bra dancing behind you. And that stiltwalker? Yeah, that’s him thumping about beside you? And that fire twirler? Yeah, both of them are dancing right through your area, because that acrobat’s dancing inspires people to move like that. And everybody’s having a good time.

Maybe I’m romanticizing it a bit (I was falling asleep on my feet and had a 2 hour train ride home, I left early at 4:40am), but the distinct impression I got was that this was a genuinely kick ass time, and I just wish I could have brought you along too.
